"Year of the Hecks" was watched by 9.95 million people, up by 1.23m viewers on the last original episode, finishing ahead of CBS's I Get That A Lot special. In the important adults 18-49 demographic, The Middle finished first with a 3.0/9 rating, up from 2.8/8 on December 7. The Middle ranked first by all key ratings indicators. This was the show's third best showing in total viewers.
