Last night's Valentine's themed episode of The Middle finished second behind Fox behemoth American Idol in the ratings.
"Valentine's Day III" was watched by 8.44 million people, up by 360,000 viewers from the last original episode. In the important adults 18-49 demographic, The Middle scored a 2.6/8 rating, up from 2.5/7 on January 18. The Middle finished second by all key ratings metrics. This episode equaled the show's best ever performance against Idol in the 18-49 demo.
