Yesterday's episode of The Middle finished third place, falling to season lows in the ratings.
"The Paper Route", with guest star Ed Asner, was watched by 6.93 million people, down by 1,300,000 viewers from the last original episode. The Middle scored a 2.1/7 rating in the crucial adults 18-49 demographic, down by six tenths from February 29. The Middle ranked third in its time slot by all key ratings metrics, finishing behind Fox's American Idol and CBS' Survivor.

Meanwhile, Sue tries to adjust to wearing a full-on headgear, and Frankie discovers that Mike has been secretly hoarding batteries for years.
